Asthma is on the rise in Utah and it’s affecting some areas of the state more than others. The Utah Department of Health released The Asthma in Utah Burden Report 2012 this week. It shows that the number of people with asthma has increased significantly since 2001, despite improvements in outdoor air quality and a decrease in cigarette smoking and secondhand smoke exposure.
Asthma is a chronic lung disease that can make it hard to breathe. Symptoms include breathlessness, coughing, wheezing and chest tightness.
