Heat Prompts Code Orange Air Quality Alert In Baltimore Area

As temperatures remain high in the region, the quality of air may become dangerous for the vulnerable population.

The Maryland Department of the Environment has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for Tuesday in the Baltimore metro area.

Meteorologist Chelsea Ingram reports hot and humid air is in place, which means chances of daily scattered showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evenings this week.

Low pressure pushing in out from the Great Lakes will bring in cooler temperatures behind it towards the end of the weekend.

The alert is in place for north and south Baltimore City, Harford, Howard, Carroll and Anne Arundel counties.

A Code Orange Air Quality Alertt means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups, which include elderly, children and people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases.

The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
