Air Quality in York has kept stable since peak traffic levels have been controlled and cycling levels have increased more than 15% since the beginning of Cycling City York programme.

The Environment Act 1995 requires all local authorities to assess air pollution in their regions and to declare Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs).
