BANGALORE: A whopping 67% of emission in Bangalore is caused by the transport sector. Over the past decade, dozens of global studies have shown that spending time in close proximity to heavy traffic, especially diesel truck traffic, is associated with a wide range of morbidity effects, as well as increased mortality.Importantly, diesel exhaust particulate was declared a toxic air contaminant in 1998 and subsequently, in June 2012, World Health Organisation WHO classified diesel exhaust as carcinogenic.
